FIRST FUND-RAISER IS BIG SUCCESS

Dundee East Community Sports Club’s first major fund-raising event, a Sportsman’s Dinner held at the Invercarse Hotel on 3 October 2009, has been hailed a great success.

“Everything went well and as planned,” stated a delighted DECSC Chairman Gordon Deuchars. “The final amount raised is expected to be in excess of £5900, which is fantastic for our first dinner.”

Kevin Lee, the Scottish Football Association’s Dundee-based Regional Club Development Manager and an advisor to the DECSC committee, was equally enthusiastic: “I just want to congratulate the DECSC on a fantastic evening. It clearly demonstrated what I believe are the main benefits of a Community Club - pooling resources, effective partnership, working together etc. I’m sure there will be many more successful projects in the future.”

DECSC AWARDED £40k FROM CASHBACK SCHEME

The Scottish Government announced on 6 May 2009 that Dundee East Community Sports Club has been awarded £40,000 from the CashBack for Communities Scheme.

This very welcome financial boost, following on from the Club receiving planning permission for additional changing rooms, means work can start on a new four team changing facility, with showers, toilets, and referee changing.

DECSC AWARDED £1K FROM THE DUNDEE SPORTSMAN'S DINNER

In December 2009 the organising committee of the Dundee Sportsman's Dinner decided that the Dundee East Community Sports Club, in only its first year, was to be one of the fortunate beneficiaries of the 2009 Dinner and allocated £1000 towards the DECSC’s endeavours to develop young talent in sport.

SFA'S BID TO LINK CLUBS WITH NEW PLAYERS

The Scottish Football Association (SFA) are keen to support clubs in their recruitment efforts by guiding players from SFA programmes into local clubs.

Kevin Lee, the SFA Regional Club Development Manager (EastI had previously sent out a Player Recruitment Form for clubs to complete and return, thus enabling Kevin to identify the needs of the clubs and match them with the players that are in the SFA programmes. “I have received a few forms back from Dundee clubs to date but not very club has responded so far,” confirms Kevin. “Obviously I’m not sure if this is due to the fact that some clubs don’t need players or officials have just been too busy to return their form.”

Kevin has sent another copy of the Player Recruitment form and this is now available as a Download from the Broughty Athletic site – www.broughtyathletic.com
