SUCCESSFUL SECOND SOCCER FESTIVAL
The Dundee East Community Sports Club’s second Soccer Festival took place on 26 February 2012 at Dundee’s Soccer World. Throughout the day the event was played in great spirit, despite a slight chill forcing its way into the inside arena.
Twelve Under 10s teams from around the Dundee area participated, playing for the fun of the game.
DECSC secretary and the event’s organiser Hugh Jamieson, who is also of course the Broughty Athletic secretary, was pleased with the way the day panned out.
“The ethos behind it is to give kids an opportunity to play football in the middle of winter in a safe environment. There are too few opportunities like that these days. We’re just trying to encourage kids to have fun and I think we can look forward to making the tournament an annual event”.
The twelve teams were: Dryburgh Orange, Ferry A, Douglas A, DUSC A, Dundee West Reds, Dundee Thistle, Dryburgh Blue, Ferry B, Douglas B, DUSC B, Dundee West Blue and Riverside
Following the conclusion of play, Hugh spoke to all attendees about the importance of volunteering for events such as this before handing out medals, fruit and drink (provided by McDonalds) to all teams.
