On Sunday 17th August 2014 Ferry Athletic played host to Aberdeenshire Club Formartine FC.

5 Age groups played highly enjoyable 7 and 11 aside matches. The kids and parents thoroughly enjoyed the day which was finished off at fellow Hub members, Forthill Games Club, function suite for food and refreshments.

The clubs are looking at having this as an annual event with Ferry heading North next pre-season.

 Men's Artistic Gymnastics Summer Camp

I just wanted to say a big thank you to Hugh and to the DECSC for allowing us to use your mini buses for our Men's Artistic Gymnastics Summer Camp. It was incredibly generous of you and we are all very grateful. I've attached a couple of photos for you.

The camp was a huge success with 36 boys and 10 coaches taking part over the 3 days. In addition we also had 6 guests making an appearance including: the 2006 Commonwealth Pommel finalist - Andrew Mackie, sports psychologist - Simon Petrie, and the British National Development Coach - Sam Hunter. We managed to fit in 15 hours of training, 2 evenings of BBQs and even a campfire to toast some marshmallows. Transport between the gym and the accommodation was always going to be a challenge for so many gymnasts and coaches but with your help it all worked out really.

Once again, thank you and best regards for the future.

Stelious nominated for SportDundee Volunteer of the Year

Stelios dedicates all his free hours volunteering to develop the sport of handball across Dundee. He has forged close ties with Active Schools and Leisure & Culture Dundee and his efforts have led to him delivering taster sessions, after school clubs and lunchtime clubs at a number of schools as well as coaching courses for teachers, parents and students.

Stelios’ efforts have led to fantastic developments within the club which has expanded from a one team club to having 3 senior teams and a total of 47 members. In addition, the club now has 30 junior members.

Stelios works tirelessly to promote handball in Dundee. The club is now part of Dundee East Community Sports Club and through Stelios’ efforts there is now a handball court marked out at DISC which has attracted national league fixtures to the city for the first time.

DECSC are happy to Welcome Dundee Handball Club to the Hub

Dundee Handball Club was formed in 2011 by Jamie Lau and Stelios Nikolaou as a result of the need for the sport in Dundee by foreign players. The club began with only a men's team which made their way all the way to the Scottish Cup Final. The success of finishing second in that final helped pave the way to form a women's team the following season and also another men's team this time taking part in the second division the season after.

PETER OUT? ENERGETIC MR. RYDER IS SELDOM IN!

DECSC Vice Chairman Peter Ryder continues to be a busy man!

As well as a very demanding day job and his active connection with the DECSC and Ferry Athletic YFC Peter somehow manages to find time to also be involved in Junior football; last season (2011-12 ) he was the Assistant Manager of Blairgowrie Football Club.

Peter has now left Blairgowrie and recently moved to Coupar Angus FC. “Coupar Angus did not win a match last season,” commented Peter, “so there’s a big challenge ahead. We will be focusing on youth this season and hopefully the new team will manage to achieve one or two decent results along the way.”

One thing’s for sure. The club which gave the great Alan Gilzean his start in football could be in for better times if Peter’s enthusiasm is infectious.
